Ajit Agarkar Set To Become The New Chief Selector: Former player Ajit Agarkar’s name is leading in the race for the next chief selector of the Indian team. This post is vacant after the resignation of Chetan Sharma in February 2023. At present only 4 members are present in the Indian selection committee. In such a situation, in view of the Asia Cup and the World Cup, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to fill a vacant position. The last date to apply for this post is June 30.
According to the news of Indian Express, BCCI approached Ajit Agarkar for this post and also assured him of increased salary as the chief selector. After this, Agarkar applied for this post. Earlier, Agarkar had resigned from his post as the assistant coach of IPL franchise Delhi Capitals.
Ajit Agarkar has applied to join the selection committee for the second time. Earlier in the year 2020, when he applied, he was not selected by the BCCI. At present, the members of the selection committee get an annual salary of Rs 90 lakh. At the same time, Rs 1 crore is given as salary to the person performing the responsibility of the chief selector.
BCCI agrees to increase the salary of selectors
The Board of Control for Cricket in India has decided to review the salaries of the selection committee. The biggest reason behind this was former veteran players not applying for this post due to salary. At present, the Indian selection committee consists of Subroto Banerjee, Salil Ankola, Sreedharan Sharath and Shiv Sunder Das. In this, after the departure of Chetan Sharma, Das is playing the role of interim chief selector.
