Chattisgarh Election 2023: The Central Election Commission (CEC) has established a State-Level Media Certification and Monitoring Committee (MCMC) for the Assembly Election 2023. This committee will oversee the content published or broadcasted by the media. The committee will investigate all cases referred to it by the District Media Certification and Monitoring Committee or those taken suo motu when Ped News aired false or inspiring content.
If the cases against Ped News are found to be valid, the committee will direct the Returning Officer to issue notices to the candidates. The seven-member SLMCMC, chaired by Chief Election Officer Reena Babasaheb Kangale, has been formed with immediate effect, according to the orders issued by the Chief Election Officer’s office.
As per the orders issued, Nillesh Kumar Mahadev Kshirsagar, Joint Chief Electoral Officer, has been appointed as the Member-Secretary of the State-Level Media Certification and Monitoring Committee. Ramesh Jaybhai, Deputy Director of the Information Department in Raipur, Dr. Suman Gupta, a member of the Press Council of India, and Asim Kumar Thawait, a scientist at the National Informatics Center in Naya Raipur, have also been appointed as members of the committee.
In addition to these members, the committee will also include inspectors appointed by the Election Commission of India and the committee’s designated expert representatives. The State-Level Media Certification and Monitoring Committee will make decisions regarding the certification of advertisements in response to appeals received from both the District and Upper/Combined Chief Electoral Officers.
