Imran Khan, Khandwa. On the occasion of Guru Purnima in Khandwa district of Madhya Pradesh, taxi fare and medicines are available free of cost along with food and drink in the city. This arrangement is not of the government, but of Khandwa residents who cooperate with each other. More than 300 Bhandaras are set up in the city on Guru Purnima.

Thousands of disciples from all over the country come to pay obeisance at Dhuniwale Dadaji’s ashram in the city. The grand mausoleum of Saint Kesavanand Maharaj, who is said to be an incarnation of Lord Shankar, is situated on the Indore road in Khandwa. He died here in 1930. Kesavanand Maharaj alias Bade Dadaji always kept a dhuni lit near him. It is believed that even today that dhuni has been burning continuously for the last 86 years. For 12 years his disciple Harihar Nath Maharaj served his samadhi. He also died in 1942. As per his wish, the tomb of Harihar Nath Maharaj aka younger grandfather was also established near the tomb of elder grandfather. To see this wonderful example of Guru-disciple, lakhs of people from all over the country gather here on the day of Guru Purnima.

Devotees travel hundreds of kilometers to reach here to attend Guru Purnima. The hospitality of the devotees starts as soon as they enter the city. This is the reason why the number of devotees coming to Khandwa on Guru Purnima is continuously increasing. Khandwa Avdhoot is called Tapobhoomi of Saint Kesavanand. The samadhi of the saint who always kept the flame of fire in front of him is in Khandwa. Whom the devotees remember by the name of Dadaji Dhuni Wale. Every year on Guru Purnima lakhs of devotees come to pay obeisance at Dadaji’s court. RK Shivhare, who came from Chhattisgarh, has been coming to Khandwa on Gurupurnima festival for the last twenty-five years. Seeing the service of the citizens of Khandwa, they only say that for two days of the festival, the entire Khandwa becomes Dadaji Dham.

Narendra Soni and Ashwani Saini, who reached Dada Darbar after walking for 15 days from Betul to Khandwa, told that Khandwa is the only city in the country, where the citizens serve the devotees on their behalf. Bhandaras are planted in the city, which have more than 50 types of dishes. On Guru Purnima, the entire city of Khandwa gets engaged in the service of Dadaji’s devotees coming from outside.
