MP Election 2023: In the 2023 Madhya Pradesh state elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has fielded its prominent leaders in the legislative assembly elections. The Congress party has not yet announced any candidates. The party might field young faces against the veteran BJP leaders in some constituencies. There are indications that some incumbent legislators will be given the chance to contest again, while changes may occur in other constituencies considering caste and local dynamics.
The BJP has already announced 79 candidates in three lists, and more than 100 candidates’ names will be released after October 5th. The elections for the state legislature are scheduled for November. The BJP has put central ministers like Narendra Singh Tomar, Faggan Singh Kulaste, and Prahlad Singh Patel, along with four other MPs, in the electoral fray, making the competition interesting. Kailash Vijayvargiya, the party’s general secretary, is also making a return to state politics after eight years. These BJP leaders are being fielded in seats currently held by Congress MLAs.
The likelihood of change: This move by the BJP has put pressure on the Congress, and the party is contemplating its strategy in light of these changes. The party is actively seeking feedback from Lok Sabha in-charges and district office-bearers. The Congress plans to field candidates who have strong social connections and can mobilize party workers effectively. The party is also considering giving opportunities to young faces while assessing the local and caste equations in different constituencies.
The Congress may also consider fielding senior leaders in the election. In the previous elections, former Pradesh Congress Committee president Arun Yadav contested against Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan in Budhni, and former Union Minister Suresh Pachouri contested from Bhojpur. Both candidates were defeated. After Dr. Vikrant Bhuria lost the election in Jhabua, former Pradesh Congress Committee president Kantilal Bhuria contested and won the by-election. Former leader of the opposition Ajay Singh may also be back in the election fray. The party is preparing to field several senior leaders in this election.
Encircling Ministers in their Own Constituencies: The party is also working on a plan to surround the ministers of the Shivraj Singh government in their respective areas. Care is being taken in candidate selection to implement this strategy effectively.
Overall, the Congress party is carefully considering its candidate selection and strategy for the Madhya Pradesh state elections, aiming to make the electoral battle competitive against the BJP.
