Raipur. Chaturmas will start with the celebration of Devshayani Ekadashi on the Ekadashi of Ashada Shukla Paksha. Chaturmas will start from 29th June till 23rd November. Although the period of Chaturmas is of four months, but this year Chaturmas will be of five months, not four and there will be a ban on auspicious works for five months. The reason for this is that this year there is an extra month, which is called leap year in the English calendar.
It is mentioned in Puranas that in these days Lord Vishnu, the sustainer of the world, sleeps on the infinite bed of Kshirsagar in Patal Lok for four months, therefore no auspicious work is done in these days. Chaturmas will end on 23 November 2023, on the day of Devuthani Ekadashi of Shukla Paksha of Kartik month.

Auspicious works are banned during Chaturmas. During this, works like marriage, marriage, house warming or shaving are not done. Doing auspicious work in Chaturmas gives inauspicious results instead of auspicious ones. That’s why it is better that any auspicious work should be done before or after Chaturmas.

- Manglik works like marriage, engagement, shaving, house warming, Upanayan Sanskar etc. are not performed in Chaturmas.
- Celibacy should be followed in these four months. The rules of fasting should not be violated
3. If Chaturmas fasts are to be observed, then in that situation one should not sleep on bed and carpet. - Do not consume meat, alcohol, smoking, onion, garlic etc. in Chaturmas.
