Illegal Bowling Action: Till now many such bowlers have come in the cricket world, who had to face many difficulties due to bowling action. The name of former Sri Lankan veteran spinner Muttiah Muralitharan is also included in this list. Muralitharan was barred from bowling for Australia. Now former Pakistan spinner Saeed Ajmal has made a big claim that the bowling action of many bowlers including Harbhajan and Ashwin is illegal.
Saeed Ajmal disclosed this in the ‘Nadir Ali Podcast’ YouTube channel. But the thing to note is that the action of Saeed Ajmal himself was found suspicious. In 2014, Ajmal was banned from bowling. After about a year, Ajmal returned to cricket, but he was not as effective as before.
Now Ajmal talked about bowlers with illegal action. He said, “I can name 20-25 bowlers who used to do this. There are also bowlers who have taken 400-500 wickets in the list. Players like Harbhajan Singh, Ashwin, Narine and Muttiah Mullridharan were in medical condition. Curtly Ambrose is something else among the fast bowlers. He used to wave his hand while bowling. His bowling action was illegal.
The former Pakistani spinner further explained how he got permission to soften the action, but then it was also taken back. Ajmal said, “I had a medical condition. My shoulder, wrist and arm were not completely well. Whose shoulder bends up to 90 degrees, he cannot lift his shoulder without bending it. Due to this medical condition, I was allowed to bowl.
Ajmal further said, “I kept playing like that. When I took 448 international wickets, they remembered that Ajmal’s action was not good. I talked about this with the referee in Sri Lanka. The referee gave me a letter, in which it was written that the condition of medical condition does not apply to you. When I asked why He replied that Muraleedharan has retired. He also had some medical conditions. So they removed the rule.”
