Sourav Ganguly Questions Ajinkya Rahane’s Elevation To Test Vice-Captaincy For West Indies Tour Test Squad

Sourav Ganguly On Ajinkya Rahane, India vs West Indies: Former captain of the Indian cricket team, Sourav Ganguly has expressed surprise over the decision to re-appoint Ajinkya Rahane as the vice-captain in Tests. Team India has to play the first Test match of the 2 Test series on the West Indies tour from 12th July. Ajinkya Rahane has been appointed as the vice-captain of the team for this Test series.

Ajinkya Rahane’s return to the Test team was seen after almost 18 months for the World Test Championship (WTC) final match. In his comeback Test match, Rahane played excellent innings of 89 and 46, impressing everyone. Although the Indian team had to face defeat in the final.

Former BCCI President Sourav Ganguly said in a statement to PTI that I do not consider this decision to go backward. You stay out of the team for 18 months, then you get a chance to play one Test and then you become the vice-captain. I do not understand the thinking behind this decision. You had a great option in Ravindra Jadeja. He continues to be an important part of the Test team, but I do not understand the decision to appoint a player as vice-captain after a straight return.

There must be a continuum in selection

Sourav Ganguly further said in his statement that all I have to say on this is that you should think better on such decisions. There should be a continuity in these. Let us tell you that in the Indian team announced for the West Indies tour, the entry of two new batsmen in the form of Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rituraj Gaikwad has also been seen in the team. The first Test match of the Windies tour will be played on July 12 at Dominica’s ground.
