How to reach Mahadevsal: Prateek Chauhan. Raipur. It is believed in scriptures and Puranas that one should not worship a broken idol of any deity, worshiping a broken idol is considered prohibited. But there is a temple where the broken Shivling is being worshiped for many years.
The place where the broken Shivling is worshipped, is the Mahadevshal Dham of Jharkhand. There is a Shiva temple named Mahadevshal Dham in Baraila village of Goilkera, Jharkhand. The specialty of this temple is that a broken Shivling is worshiped here. Half of the Shivling in this temple is cut off, but even after this people come from far and wide to visit this temple and worship in the temple. It is believed for this temple that in the middle of the 19th century, the work of laying the railway line between Calcutta and Mumbai by the Bengal-Nagpur Railway was going on near Badela village of Goilekera. At that time the laborers saw Shivling in the digging, after that the laborers stopped the digging and refused to continue working further.
After this, Robert Henry, the British engineer present there, not believing all these things, picked up the shovel and attacked the Shivling, due to which the Shivling was divided into two pieces, after which the engineer died on the way while returning from work in the evening. .
There was a strong protest against the digging of the railway line by the engineer, after which the British officials got the railway line excavated away from Shivling, due to which the direction of the railway line had to be changed and two tunnels had to be constructed. Excavation where the Shivling was found is currently the Devshal temple. In this temple, the fragmented Shivling is installed in the sanctum sanctorum of the temple, while the other piece of Shivling is believed to be two kilometers away on the Ratanbur hill along with the village goddess ‘Maa Paudi’. That first worship of Shivling is followed by worship of Maa Paudi.
