While there is a public meeting of BJP National President JP Nadda, on the other hand there will be booth chalo campaign of Congress at 3 places, in which veteran leaders of the party including the CM will be present.

On June 30 at 3 pm, there will be a public meeting of BJP National President JP Nadda at Railway’s football ground, in which BJP state in-charge, co-in-charge, state president, leader of the opposition and all the stalwarts of the party will participate. In the afternoon, there will be a gathering of Congress leaders including Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel and Deputy CM TS Singhdev, State Congress in-charge Kumari Selja in the city. The Congress stalwart will participate in the Booth Chalo campaign organized at three places.

In fact, despite the anti-Indira wave after the Emergency in Madhya Pradesh, the Congress won 13 of the 19 assembly seats in the district in the 1977-78 assembly elections. During the district division in 1998, when there used to be 10 seats, BJP won 7 seats from here. Then the performance of Congress weakened.

Bilaspur’s stature was such that Ajit Jogi of the district became the first CM of Chhattisgarh, while Rajendra Prasad Shukla remained the speaker of the Chhattisgarh assembly after Madhya Pradesh. At one time there used to be 5-5 ministers from the district. The importance of Bilaspur can be gauged from the fact that Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel himself is in charge of the Congress’s Booth Chalo campaign.
