Legendary Sri Lankan spinner Muttiah Muralitharan has shared his predictions for the potential semifinalists in the upcoming ICC World Cup 2023. According to Muralitharan, he believes that India, England, and Australia will be the teams to make it into the playoff stages of the tournament.

When asked about his top four picks for the World Cup, Muttiah Muralitharan named three teams and left the fourth spot open. Murali emphasized that luck can play a significant role, citing England’s victory in the previous World Cup.
“So, I would say India, England, Australia, and the fourth team can be anyone. These three have more chances. But you never know, cricket is all about luck. As seen in the last World Cup, we thought that New Zealand would win and England won the trophy with luck favouring them,” said Muralitharan.
India, Australia, and England were the champions in the last three ICC ODI tournaments. India lifted the trophy in 2011, while Australia and England emerged as winners in 2015 and 2019, respectively.

Muttiah Muralitharan mentioned that subcontinent teams will have an advantage due to their familiarity with playing on spin-friendly pitches in the upcoming World Cup.
“Definitely, the teams from the subcontinent will get an advantage because of the spin-friendly wickets and their batters are used to playing spin,” he stated.

The 51-year-old expressed his excitement and happiness about his upcoming biopic, saying that the movie is not solely about his cricket career.
“I am very excited and happy. Thanks to everyone who has made it possible. My biopic will release on October 6th. I hope everyone will come and watch my biopic,” he further added.
“I don’t want to give a spoiler, but it is not completely based on my cricket career. It is 20 percent cricket and 80 percent a human story. It’s about the obstacles that I faced in life and how I overcame it.”
