MP Election 2023: During elections, political parties prepare a battalion of lawyers to oversee legal matters. They focus on legal aspects throughout the election process. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the Indian National Congress, and the Aam Aadmi Party have formed a legal team for handling legal issues during the elections. These lawyers are expected to remain vigilant from campaign statements to the announcement of results. They will pay attention to the statements of candidates and parties and even minor details.
In addition, these lawyers will also monitor whether rival candidates are making any legal errors. If such errors are found, these lawyers will develop strategies to corner their opponents legally. They will take matters to the Election Commission, district election officials, and even the courts.
More than 2,000 lawyers have been appointed for this legal team. The BJP, according to Manoj Dwivedi, the state president of the party’s legal cell, has appointed five lawyers in each constituency. In addition, each district has a legal cell coordinator and a joint coordinator. All these lawyers will be involved in cases related to violations of the model code of conduct, issues with the police and administration, and taking legal action when necessary.
Congress has also established legal cells in every district, according to Anshuman Shrivastav, the executive state president of the legal department. They have created teams at the district level to address these issues. There are similar teams at the divisional level as well.
These parties have also set up a toll-free number where the public can report violations of the model code of conduct and other legal issues. The legal team in the respective party’s legal department will take swift action on these complaints.
